I would encourage all students to come to England to study, because of the atmosphere for a student. I do not think there are many faults in the system, except for the tedious application process. My university experience has gone brilliantly and I have enjoyed the independence from home more than anything else.
I applied very late on, so the process was slightly tedious, because I had to do a lot in a very short span of time. I heard from all my universities fairly quickly and had to take the IELTs, the representative in my home country was a lot of help, and frankly was probably one of the main reasons my application process went through without too many roadblocks. The visa process was extremely stressful as I was working in a very short span of time. I advise future students to apply well in time and save themselves a lot of stress. The travel process was fine, as a seasoned traveler I had no problems.
My course is extremely interesting and I am enjoying it thoroughly. I have six hours of lectures and six biweekly hours of tutorials/seminars. I did not apply for any financial assistance. The facilities are impeccable, I am just at the beginning of my course at it seems very very good. There are separate departments for every module and they are very well staffed. Assessment is based on formative and summative essays and Exams at the end of final term.
Durham is a student town, it is not very far from Newcastle and Sunderland. The people are great. My accommodation was affordable, it is possible for me to work 20 hours a week. The Student Union is a very efficient organization. There were lots events organized for both international students and for the student body as a whole.
I believe that studying abroad has helped in overall personal development and will make me a better candidate for a job. There are several ways to keep in touch with members of my college and university. I hope to be in touch once I have completed my studies.
