Overview
The School of Computing at Robert Gordon University offers a broad range of career oriented programmes in computing and IT technologies. The School has strengthened its technological deliverance through its partnership with industry and professional bodies. The Good University Guide (2009) rates the Computer Science Department of Robert Gordon University as the best in the UK.
The computing courses at the undergraduate level lay emphasis on the latest technologies for graphics and animation, multimedia and the internet, applications in business and e-Commerce and systems to support the Information Age. Technically-oriented students also have the option of choosing a traditional computer science course.
The University and the School are well-placed at the centre of an area renowned for its software development opportunities, accommodating 30% of Scotland's software engineers. The School offers exciting careers and industrial placements for undergraduate students. This is largely due to the strong relationships the School with mainstream software houses, IT providers in major oil-related companies, specialist software consultancies, and important venture capital start-ups. The School also organises lectures engaging guest speakers from companies such as Microsoft, Logica, TOTAL and IBM to enrich students with an understanding of current technologies and software practices.
The computing laboratories have more than 250 state-of-the-art PCs with the latest software installations that are periodically updated to ensure high performance delivery to the students. The School also has a purpose-built networking lab support students preparing for CISCO accreditation.
