Research

Research at the School of Engineering focuses on developing original ideas into practical solutions and transfering this knowledge to the actual industries and businesses. Since 1999 Robert Gordon University has been the largest recipient of funding from the Scottish Executive’s Proof of Concept (PoC) Programme, which promotes the flow of technology from laboratories to the market place. The School awards PhD, MPhil and MSc degrees.

The University and the School promote a free, vanguard multidisciplinary research approach resulting in the formation of the following research groups:

• The Materials and Bioengineering Group
• The Energy Group
• The Environmental Technology Group
• The Electronic Systems Group

These groups focus on three major research themes including health and welfare; energy and the environment; and the knowledge economy. The research groups further their research activities through various centres affiliated to them. The School’s research centres are listed below:

The School is also proudly involved in collaborative research projects with researchers from 20 international organisations and in addition to this, the school also offers research consultancy.
